Graves' disease is one type of an autoimmune disease which affects the thyroid and makes it grow. There may also be symptoms such as weight loss, sleep disturbance and irritability. Most of the times Graves' disease is found after childbirth and it can also be hereditary which means if one identical twin has this disease, then in most of the cases the other twin will also have this disease.
It is found that there are many allergies that trigger off this disease. These may include seasonal allergy as well as allergy to foodstuff, which trigger the autoimmune response. These allergies sometimes also cause relapse in the patients. These allergies may be caused due to foodstuff such as diary products, wheat, corn, eggs etc. If a food allergy is suspected, it is advisable to make a list of the suspected food stuff. If such suspected food stuff is eliminated from the diet, they can help in actually pin pointing those allergens.

Another trigger for this disease may be excess use of iodine hence it is better to limit the intake of iodine. The other causes of allergy can be seasonal things such as ragweed and pollen. In case of triggers due to seasonal allergy, it may occur at a particular time of the year.
When the autoimmune response is triggered, one can get a blood test done to check if the allergens are the triggers. If the eosinophil levels are high, then this is a sign of allergic reaction, apart from this the patients may have symptoms such as running nose, sneezing, headaches and nasal stuffiness.
