Understanding What Is Para Nasal Sinus Disease

Paranasal sinuses are sinus cavities are air filled spaces within the bones of the skull. They are termed as paranasal sinus cavities because they are directly connected to the nasal passage. Paranasal sinus cavities reduce the weight of the skull, produce mucous which lines the nasal cavity and resonate the voice. There are four pairs of paranasal sinus cavities present in the human body. They are the frontal which are present which lie above the eyes in the frontal bone which forms the hard part of the head. The ethmoid sinus cavities lie between the nose and the eyes. The sphenoid sinus cavity lies at the skull base above the pituitary gland. The maxillary sinuses are the largest of all paranasal sinuses. They lie below the eye, in the cheek bone. There are a lot of opinions regarding what is paranasal sinus disease.

Paranasal sinus disease is the inflammation of the lining of these sinus cavities. this inflammation can be caused by allergens, viral infections or bacteria. Another explanation to the question what is para nasal sinus disease is that when the mucous from the sinus cavities stops draining properly, it causes sinus. Healthy sinuses are normally air filled. Infected sinuses become mucous filled because of lack of proper drainage.

DISEASE

One of the most important aspects of understanding what is para nasal sinus disease is understanding its symptoms. Some of the most common symptoms of sinus disease are slow fever, headache, facial pain, swelling, jaw pain and toothache. Sinus may also be accompanied by a pus filled nasal discharge which is greenish yellow in colour. This nasal discharge may also be blood tinged.

Apart from understanding what is para nasal sinus disease, it is also important to know the best possible way to cure it. It is best to take advice from a reputed medical practitioner. A course of anti inflammatory drugs or anti allergic medicines helps most of the times. Doctors also advice nasal irrigation or nasal sprays at times. Surgery may be considered in some extreme cases.

Once a person understands what is para nasal sinus disease, he/ she should also realize the consequences of it. A severe case of sinusitis may be a threat to a person's life. It is best if sinusitis is taken care in an early stage.

The Truth About Red Wine and Heart Disease

Red Wine, Heart Disease, Hungry Sharks and Knights in Shining Armor

What is so special about wine? What is it that makes it potentially more protective against coronary heart disease, and perhaps other diseases, that other forms of alcohol?

DISEASE

In recent years, scientists have concluded without doubt that many human diseases such as heart disease, cancer and the aging process is caused or stimulated by a ravenous group of chemicals called free radicals, that act like hungry sharks. These highly charged little villains prowl the body and attack healthy cell membranes through a process that is called oxidation. In this scenario, there is however a knight in shining armor that jumps to the rescue and purges these ever hungry little killers. The name of our crusader is antioxidants.

Without getting too technical, the oxidation process in our bodies is crucial for health, without it, for instance, we would not be able to extract energy from our food. But if there are too many free radicals in our bodies this can be harmful.

Our body has its own defenses against free radicals, in the form of enzymes that are able to turn the hungry little sharks into harmless water. However, sometimes our body's natural defense mechanisms can't cope. Other times, external events can cause huge increases of free radicals within our bodies, such as x-rays, cigarette smoke and exposure to toxic substances. At times, this surge of free radicals can swamp our defenses and illnesses such as radiation sickness may take place.

So what does oxidation and free radicals have to do with heart disease?

Low density lipoproteins, commonly know as "bad" LDL, can penetrate and gather against the inner walls of our arteries, under certain conditions, forming fatty streaks and plaque. Taken alone, LDL particles aren't so dangerous it seems, however, when attacked by free radicals they turn into dangerous and somewhat aggressive cells, capable of actually penetrating and harming the smooth inner walls of our arteries. This process is called oxidation. Oxidized LDL is known to be the culprit in stimulating atherosclerosis, heart disease and stroke.

Antioxidants, as the name suggests (anti-oxidants) can help stop the oxidation process, which are the results of free radicals doing their stuff. Most antioxidant research has been carried out on vitamins (A, E, beta carotene) but quite a lot of work has also been done on the healthy benefits of red wine. While most research on red wine has been done in relation to coronary heart disease, it seems that the benefits of wine don't stop there.

Red wine and Coronary Heart Disease

Red wine contains a wide range of flavanoids; these are the chemicals that give the wine its particular taste and character, making one different from another. Many of these flavanoids act like antioxidants. Perhaps the forerunner of wine research was carried out by a certain Serge Renaud, who discovered the French Paradox, which suggested that wine was the decisive factor in protecting the people in southern France from their very high fat diets and ultimately coronary heart disease. Even if these people do eat large quantities of high fat cheese, pâté, and salami they have some of the lowest rates of heart disease in the world.

Another study, statistical rather than practical, by a Professor Grey of the University of Bern in Switzerland focused on the low, medium and high coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality figures of the World Health Organization.

What did he find? Well from among the high mortality areas were Finland and Scotland, the middle areas included Ireland, and the low CHD areas included Spain, Italy and France. He then compared heart attack rates with antioxidant levels in blood samples taken from men living in those areas.

Vitamin E and Heart Disease

What he found was very interesting, the results showed that high antioxidant levels, in particular vitamin E, coincided with low death rates of heart disease. Moreover, his results showed that vitamin E levels were 94% more accurate in predicting CHD rates than were cholesterol levels or blood pressure figures! Apart from diet, the high CHD regions drink very little, if any wine, whereas the low regions traditionally accompany their meals most days with wine.

It certainly seems strange that two much studied cities; Glasgow in Scotland and Toulouse in France show many similarities and yet many differences. The inhabitants of both cities eat tremendous amounts of high fat foods, traditionally take little exercise and drink alcohol. The surprising difference is that while the people of Glasgow have one of the highest rates of CHD in the world, the fortunate people of Toulouse have one of the lowest. Traditionally beer and spirits are the preferred drinks in Glasgow, while the folks in Toulouse drink red wine.

It has also been suggested that drinking in moderation together with meals is beneficial, while binge drinking at bars in the evening is harmful. It seems the southern Europeans don't drink for the alcohol buzz, but just as a pleasant accompaniment to their meals.

At first the large heart institutions such as the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association ignored both antioxidants and frowned upon wine. While it is clear that it could be potentially dangerous for a physician to recommend his patients start drinking alcohol, it is also strange that they pretended for so many years to ignore the evidence. Well, now even if they don't promote the taking of vitamin pills; antioxidants and free radicals are now recognized. However, according to the AHA "There is no scientific proof that drinking wine or any other alcoholic beverage can replace conventional measures. No direct comparison trials have been done to determine the specific effect of wine or other alcohol on the risk of developing heart disease or stroke. Just ask yourself who would pay for such studies. Clinical Trials have the purpose of showing one thing to be better than another, or whether a certain substance is beneficial to health. The costs of clinical trials is so high that only the pharmaceutical industry have the financial clout to invest in them - invest is the correct word. What a surprise.

Tingling Or Numbness in Hands and Feet - A Warning Sign of Diabetes?

Ask yourself these few questions:

1. Do you wake up each morning with tingling hands?
2. Do your feet tingle every time you sit down?
3. Do you just blame it on "sleeping on" your feet or hands?

DISEASE

If you answered "yes" to any or all of these questions, then I'm glad you're reading this. The tingling or numbness in your hands and feet may be a warning sign of diabetes.

This sensation of tingling or numbness has alternative names such as:

* Loss of sensation
* Neuropathy
* Paresthesias
* Restless leg syndrome
* Sensory loss

Type 2 diabetes is gradual and many people aren't aware that they have it. Diabetes is a condition that causes the blood sugar level to be higher than normal. This high blood glucose, among other things, damages the nervous system causing the sensation of tingling or numbness.

If you're not sure if you have diabetes, look at these symptoms:

* Blurry vision
* Constant Numbness
* Constant Tingling
* Excessive thirst
* Extreme hunger
* Frequent urination
* Increased fatigue
* Irritability
* Unusual weight loss

Don't self-diagnose diabetes. You must see a medical professional for an accurate diagnosis. Still, you should keep a log when you notice these symptoms so you will be able to intelligently answer questions your medical professional will need to ask you.

Though not a complete list, some of the medical complications caused by diabetes are:

* Eye Disease
* Heart Disease
* Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose)
* Kidney Disease
* Kidney Failure
* Stomach Nerve Damage
* Stroke
* Urologic Problems

The reason why tingling or numbness isn't caught in time before it gets serious is because these sensations are similar to the feeling of having a foot or a hand "fall asleep."

Tingling and numbness is defined as an inability to feel anything when it touches your skin. Thus, the "falling asleep" sensation.

Tingling or numbness can be serious. Call your doctor immediately

if:
1. You have a rash.
2. You have dizziness, muscle spasm, or other unusual symptoms.
3. You have tingling or numbness has no obvious cause like them "falling asleep"
4. You have tingling or numbness in the fingers and/or wrists.
5. You have tingling or numbness in your legs and it worsens when you walk around.
6. You have pain in your neck, forearms, or fingers.
7. You urinate more often.

These symptoms of tingling and/or numbness will be worse at nighttime.

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, your life is not over and you definitely aren't alone. If you want something to help keep your diabetes under control, Diamaxol is a safe and effective product that will help you take control of your diabetes so your diabetes won't take control of you.

Home Remedy For Sinus Infection

Sinus infections are one of the most common infections across the world. Sinus attacks are caused by an infection in the sinuses or cavities that are present in the bones near the nose. When there is any swelling in these sinuses because of some infection, breathing becomes difficult, resulting in fever, headaches, and other discomforts. This is known as sinusitis.

Each sinus or cavity in the skull has an opening that allows free exchange of mucus and air. Each sinus is joined to the other by a mucous membrane lining. When there is an infection like hay fever or a disease like asthma, these sinuses and the lining become inflamed, causing air and mucus to be blocked inside or a vacuum to be created. This can cause pressure on the sinus walls, causing severe pain. Millions of dollars are spent for sinus medications and sinus research.

SEVERS DISEASE

Sinus infections can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Sometimes, the infection may also lead to some brain infections or other chronic problems. Though there is no effective remedy for sinus infections, a lot of comfort can be gained by treating the sinus symptoms like headaches, nasal discharge, nasal blocking, runny nose, ear/neck/cheek/jaw pain, swelling of eyelids, etc. However, acute or chronic sinus infections require prolonged treatments, comprised of antibiotics or therapies like saline nasal rinses, topical/oral decongestants, antihistamines, mucolytic agents, and intranasal corticosteroids.

Sinus infections can also be treated by some home remedies. A lot of relief can be obtained by inhaling steam from a vaporizer or a bowl of hot water. Applying a hot or a cold compress over the inflamed area would also provide relief. A decoction of mustard seed powder and water, instilled in the nostrils; eating jalapeno peppers; drinking juice of ripe grapes; applying a paste of cinnamon and water on the forehead; applying paste of ginger and water/milk on the forehead; applying paste of basil leaves, cloves, and dried ginger on the forehead; inhaling steam of eucalyptus oil; and drinking warm tea are all found to be effective in providing some relief. Drinking a lot of water and other fluids would also help. A great deal of rest is also required. However, it is better to consult a specialist if the infection persists.

Pulmonary Hypertension Prognosis - What to Do

Pulmonary hypertension is a condition where the blood pressure in the lungs increases. This disease affects the lungs and be quite dangerous. When the blood pressure in the arteries or veins of the lungs is increased the person experiencing it can suffer a lot of damage. Pulmonary hypertension can be divided into primary pulmonary hypertension and secondary pulmonary hypertension. Primary pulmonary hypertension usually has an unknown cause but is attributed sometimes to genetic factors, an auto immune disease or the use of certain substances. The abuse of several drugs has been linked with the development of this condition. This type of hypertension is very dangerous and mostly affects women younger than 40 years.

Secondary pulmonary hypertension is the type of hypertension that has a known cause such as bronchitis, emphysema and pulmonary embolism. The condition will cause an increased blood flow in the pulmonary artery. This can constrict the blood vessels that lead to the heart which can produce a heart attack. Some symptoms related to this condition are fatigue, chest pain and cough. Another symptom that a person might experience is inflammation of the legs.

DISEASE

The prognosis for pulmonary hypertension is usually poor. This life threatening disease has no known cure yet but there are several treatments available to extend the life expectancy of the patients. One of the treatments is the lung and heart transplant. This is necessary as transplanting the lung alone is not enough to compensate for the damage. The use of anticoagulants is very helpful too for the victims of pulmonary high blood pressure. Anticoagulants prevent the formation of blood clots, helping to ease the strain on the cardiovascular system. Other medications commonly use to treat this disease is the calcium channel blockers and vasodilators. Calcium channel blockers assist in opening the vascular smooth muscles in the lungs. The vasodilators trigger a reaction in the cells to expand the blood vessels and in consequence lower the blood pressure.

Some exercise can also be done in order to improve the life of the patient. Exercising should only be done in a moderate amount and with the approval of the doctor. The early detection of the disease is critical in order ensure a greater life expectancy for the victim. Treatment for the condition can help in adding a couple of years to the life of the patient. Living a healthy life style, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and exercise regularly can help in preventing difficult diseases.

Mild Asthma

This is asthma that does not drastically affect the quality of one's life. The symptoms are not severe. Mild asthma attacks are also not so intense and the duration between the attacks is quite long. People with this type of asthma can go on with their lives without a lot of concern about their condition. Due care should also be taken as the condition can turn to be chronic if they do not treat it.

The symptoms of mild asthma are the same as those of chronic asthma. The only difference is the intensity and severity. These symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest cavity. The asthma symptoms usually last for a minute or two. The maximum time given is five minutes. Sometimes medication is given to relieve the symptoms.

SEVERS DISEASE

The most common causes of asthma are allergies. These allergies differ in different people. The most common ones are to animals, pollen, house dust mites, weather, air pollutants, fungi and mold. One should know what they are allergic to and try to avoid it. This way, you reduce chances of having an attack.

A doctor's advice on the condition is very important as you do not want the condition to turn from mild asthma to chronic, always keep it in check. Regular visits to the doctor will determine the condition and how you are progressing. The doctor will also determine whether to put you on medication or not. You should not ignore the symptoms of mild asthma as they can develop into chronic asthma.

How to Cure or Alleviate Edema, Including Lymphedema

By edema excessive fluid gather in body parts or greater areas of the body, making the areas swollen. Edema is most often a problem in the legs, but can occur anywhere in the body.

There are several types of edema, and many cases are also a mixture of more than one type. By lymphedema the drainage from the tissues through the lymph vessels are impaired or excessive fluid goes through the blood capillary walls into the spaces between the cells in a tissue. Edema can also occur because of poor drainage of blood through the veins towards the heart. Edema can further be caused by general accumulation of excessive fluid in the body.

SEVERS DISEASE

The causes of edema are many. Edema is a symptom by most inflammations. Insufficient heart action by congestive heart failure can cause edema. A too high intake of salt can cause general water retention in the body. Sitting and standing long in the same position can cause edema in the lower limbs. A still sitting life without exercise can cause or aggravate edema.

Insufficiencies of the liver or kidneys can cause fluid retention and thereby edema. Edema can be a side effect of antihypertensive drugs, steroids surgery and radiation therapy. Further causes of different types of edema are varicose veins, cancer, hypothyroidism, blood clots, constipation and physical injuries.

To treat edema, it is important to treat the underlying disease or injury. However, medical treatment does not always cure the underlying condition or the cause is wholly or partially lifestyle aspects. Therefore various measures targeted directly against the edema are useful. These are presented here:

Pharmacological treatments: The physician will sometimes prescribe diuretics to reduce fluid retention in the body and thereby reduce edema. This treatment should however be used for serious edema or edema persistent when other measures do not work.

Salt intake restriction: Restriction of salt intake is an important measure by edema. People suffering from edema should avoid adding great amount of salt into their food or consume preprocessed food with a salty taste.

Diet: A good general diet that alleviates chronic inflammation is useful. The diet should especially contain enough sources of omega-3-fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids, like: Fat fish, seafood, flax oil, olive oil, almonds, rape oil and canola oil. Also vegetables and fruit in a natural shape are useful.

Avoiding constipation: Constipation should be treated, since a stomach engorged by excessive content can cause impairment of fluid circulation.

Variation of corporeal position: You should avoid sitting or standing still a long time during the day. When sitting during work or rest, you should change position with regular intervals.

Exercise: Every day you should have some exercise adjusted to your health condition. This could be walking, cycling, swimming, running or any other sport activity where you use greater parts of your body. Doing regular stretching exercises or yoga is useful. By severe edema special therapeutic exercises should be prescribed by a professional.

High position of limb: When you are sleeping or resting the swollen body parts can be placed in an elevated position by means of pillows, pads or by resting in an adjustable bed or chair.

Massage: By minor edema yourself, your spouse or a friend can massage the affected body part to alleviate the edema. The massage should be done in the direction of natural flow of blood and lymph that is towards the heart. You should however avoid massaging distinctly injured or distinctly inflamed body parts. By severe edema a professional massager should be engaged to perform the massage type called "manual lymphatic drainage".

Elastic bandaging: You can use elastic gloves, stockings, tapes or bandages around the swollen body parts during the day or during physical activities after instruction from a professional person.

Inflatable garments: There are inflatable garments to be found that can be used around the engorged body parts some times of the day. Also these should be used after professional instruction.

Sequential gradient pump therapy: One can get special electric pumps connected to inflatable garments. The pump inflates and deflates the garments repeatedly. Each garment has several rooms that are inflated sequentially in the direction of the natural fluid stream towards the heart. In this way the fluid is dynamically pumped the right way out of the engorged body part. This type of therapy is used in professional settings or at home after instruction from a professional.

Skin care: The skin on a body part affected by severe edema should attain special care to avoid and treat sores. Proper cleaning, daily use of moisturizing creams, proper rinsing of skin injuries, antiseptic creams by injuries.

Complete decongestive therapy: This is a complete set of edema treatment techniques done by a professional person combined with self-care instructed by the professional. The techniques used are: Manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, therapeutic exercise and skin care.

Herbal and natural products: Many herbs and products composed of a blending of these herbs are used against edema. Such herbs are: Dandelion, Gingko biloba, horse chestnut, buchu, goldenrod, corn silk, horsetail, juniper, butchers broom, cleaver and ginger. Some people have experienced a good effect from using apple cider vinegar.

The flavonide rich product pycnognenol extracted from the bark of the French maritime pine has shown promising effects against edema according to scientific studies. The flavonides hydroxyethylrutosides also seem to have good effect against edema. Other natural substances that may help to treat edema are the flavonids diosmin and hesperidin and vitamin C.

OIL PULLING: The procedure called "oil pulling" may help for edema. It consists of rinsing the mouth with one tablespoon of natural oil for 15-20 minutes and then spitting the oil out. It is done in the morning before eating. Sesame or sunflower oils are usually recommended for this use.

What Is Vaginal Burning and What Causes It?

Vaginal burning is, of course, a feeling of heat, rawness, and discomfort in the vaginal area. This can include the vulva, the labia, and the vagina itself. There are many causes of vaginal burning. Some of these reasons require medical attention and some of them just require understanding.

Yeast infections are a major cause of vaginal burning. This comes from the irritation of the vagina caused by the infection. It also comes from scratching the affected area because of the itching that accompanies such infections. Treatment for the yeast infection will generally do away with the vaginal burning.

SEVERS DISEASE

There are other causes of vaginal burning. Bacterial infections can also cause it. So can sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and Trichomonas, a parasitic infection. Then there are viral infections such as HIV and HPV, the latter of which can be detected with a Pap test.

There are also noninfectious types of vaginitis. They are caused by irritation. This can come from chemicals, allergic reactions, or even clothes such as synthetic fabrics. Other noninfectious vaginitis is called atrophic vaginitis and is caused by decreased hormones when a woman is going through menopause, radiation therapy, has had her ovaries removed, or after childbirth. Vaginal burning often goes along with these cases.

Yeast infections often follow such noninfectious types of vaginitis, because the vagina is irritated and so vulnerable to infection. This only adds to the vaginal burning in an already uncomfortable situation.

Vaginal burning can come about as a result of poorly controlled diabetes. This is so common, in fact that patients with recurring yeast infections are often tested for diabetes. This is because yeast feeds on glucose and glycogen, two types of sugar in the body. When the sugars go up, the yeast also increases. When the yeast becomes an infection, it can cause vaginal burning.

Peripheral Artery Disease, or PAD, can cause vaginal burning and discomfort. Even a cold can cause it. Also the use of some medications such as Loestrin 1/20, OrthoEvra, or Yasmin can cause vaginal burning.

Because of the many serious diseases that are associated with vaginal burning, it usually wise to consult a physician to make sure it is not any of them. An exception to this rule is if a woman has had recurring yeast infections and knows exactly what her symptoms are and how to treat them herself. Also, if a woman knows precisely what is causing her vaginal burning, such as an irritation, and can eradicate it very quickly, there is no reason to go in to the doctor.

Vaginal burning is not a pleasant occurrence. Usually, though, it is not very serious. Whether it is a yeast infection or from some other cause, vaginal burning can often be treated fairly easily.

Identifying Dog Worms and their Symptoms

There are 5 different types of dog worms (internal parasites), which your dog can fall prey to. These are: heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, tapeworm and whipworm. As a dog owner, I recommend that you educate yourself on these worms in order to be able to recognize the symptoms if they should become evident in your dog.

Early worm detection is important because each type of dog worm requires a different form of treatment. You should also be aware of the fact that roundworm and hookworm are zoonotic, which means that these worms can be transmitted to humans. Some worm infestations may show little to no symptoms, whereas others can demonstrate severe symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss. Some dog worms can be seen by the naked eye while some cannot, therefore it is a good idea to ask your vet to perform a stool test for dog worms once a year.

SEVERS DISEASE

Below you can find a list of common telltale symptoms of dog worm infestation, but keep in mind that these symptoms can also be a sign of a more serious problem. Either way, always consult a veterinarian whenever your dog is not "his usual self."
Dull coat Weight loss Appetite loss Pot-bellied appearance Coughing Low energy level Diarrhea Vomiting
ROUNDWORMS (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina)

There are two types of Roundworm: Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonine. This is the most common type of dog worm, which affects the intestines and causes a pot-bellied appearance, mostly in puppies. There are a few ways puppies can become infected. Puppies are often infected before birth through the mother's uterus or through her milk. Puppies can also contract these worms through the ingestion of an infected animal (such as a rodent) or infected soil. Roundworm eggs can live in soil for many years. Once a puppy has ingested the infected soil, the eggs will hatch in his intestines, allowing the worms to live there and grow to adulthood. These adults will then produce more eggs.

Roundworms may be found in your dog's stool or vomit. They can grow to about 7 inches in length and have a spaghetti-like appearance. If this type of infestation is not detected early and is allowed a chance to develop, a buildup of worms in the intestines can cause an obstruction which may result in death. The symptoms of a severe infestation are: pot-belly appearance, diarrhea, vomiting, dull coat and weight loss.

Puppies should be dewormed every 2 weeks between 2 and 12 weeks of age, then monthly until he is 6 months old. Once your puppy has reached 6 months of age, he is less susceptible to contracting these worms but should continue yearly exams (or more often if considered high-risk).

Because Roundworm can be transmitted to humans, it is important to promote good hygiene, such as washing your hands regularly. Transmission of this dog worm to humans is usually through infected soil, which may be in your backyard or front lawn. Because the eggs are sticky and can easily adhere to hands or clothing, make sure children (and adults) wash their hands after playing outside (especially at a park or playground), after playing with the dog and before it's time to eat.

Treatment generally involves administering oral medication (dewormer) with follow-up fecal exams and a monthly heartworm medication. Try 1-800-PetMeds - America's Pet Health Resource

Prevent your dog from contracting roundworms by cleaning up fecal matter from the backyard as often as possible. Also, administering a heartworm medication such as HeartGard - Prescription Heartworm medication for Dogs & Cats is a good preventive. Do not mix wormers and consult your vet before giving your dog any medication. And last, but not least, always remember annual exams.

HOOKWORMS (Ancylostoma caninium)

Like Roundworm, Hookworm harbors in the intestines and can also be transmitted to humans. Hookworms can affect a dog at any age. It is a small, thin worm that hooks on to the intestinal wall and sucks the blood from its victim, which cause anemia and perhaps death. Due to their sharp teeth, they also cause bleeding in the intestines. Hookworms are not visible by the naked eye, therefore should be diagnosed by a vet. As with roundworm, hookworms also live and grow to adulthood in the intestines. They can also be transmitted to pups while in the mother's uterus or through her breast milk. A dog infected with hookworm would experience bloody stool, anemia, weight loss, pale gums, diarrhea and low energy level. Skin irritation can be a sign of a severe infestation.

Hookworms can be transmitted to humans by penetration of the skin, making it is possible for people to become infected simply by walking barefoot on infected soil. Hookworms, when transmitted to humans, can cause bleeding in the intestines along with abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Treatment usually consists of oral medications (dewormer), follow-up fecal exams, intravenous therapy and, if necessary, a blood transfusion. Hookworm infestation can kill your pup before the worm is ever detected. This is why it is so important to keep up with veterinary visits and exams.

TAPEWORMS (Dipylidium caninum)

The tapeworm gets its name from its long, flat, tape-like appearance. It is yet another parasite that affects the intestines, and like the roundworm, can be seen by the naked eye. Broke pieces of this dog worm would be found in the dog's fecal matter, which give it a rice-like appearance. These pieces of worm, although broken, can be found (still moving) around the dog's anus, in his stool or in his bed. Common symptoms of severe tapeworm infestation are abdominal pain, nervousness, severe itching around the anus, vomiting and weight loss.

Transmission to dogs is often caused by the ingestion of infected fleas. Although, humans are susceptible to being infected, a dog cannot transmit the dog worm to a human directly.

Regular over-the-counter deworming medication is not effective in eliminating this type of dog worm. A prescription dewormer is administered orally or by injection (praziquantel or epsiprantel). Consult your vet. Try 1-800-PetMeds - America's Pet Health Resource

WHIPWORMS (Trichuris vulpis)

Whipworms are long, thin (whip-shaped) dog worms that live in the dog's colon and are not visible by the naked eye. They attach themselves to the intestinal walls and feed off of them which, in turn, causes intestinal bleeding. Common symptoms of whipworm infestation are anemia, weight loss, flatulence, diarrhea with blood or mucus in the stool and lack of energy.

Although whipworms are the most difficult to eliminate among the families of dog worms, there is effective treatment available.

Whipworm is most effectively treated with fenbendazole (panacur), but febantel can also be used. Prescription medications are usually more effective. The treatment lasts for up to 5 days and is repeated after 3 weeks. After this treatment is finished, consult your vet about recommending a heartworm medication (containing milbemycin oxime) as a prophylactic to future infestation. Try 1-800-PetMeds - America's Pet Health Resource

Along with administering heartworm medication regularly, here are other ways to prevent reinfection:
Remove feces from backyard every few days Clean yard with a safe cleaning agent (which kills worms) Have feces tested every 6 months (more often if previously infected)
HEARTWORMS (Dirofilaria immitis)

Heartworm, although highly preventable, has the potential to be fatal, if contracted and left untreated.

Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes, mostly during the warm months when mosquitoes are most active. The mosquito becomes infected from biting dogs that carry the disease. These dog worms destroy the muscle and tissue of the heart, which can cause congestive heart failure and result in death. At this advanced stage, your dog would experience the typical signs of worms, such as pot-belly, coughing, lack of energy and dull coat.

Unfortunately, there are no symptoms of this disease until it has progressed to an advanced stage. For this reason, it is important to start your dog on a heartworm preventative such as HeartGard - Prescription Heartworm medication for Dogs & Cats at 6 months of age (after the first stage deworming process is complete. Check with your vet). Prevention is the best medicine.

General guidelines for dog worm prevention

When walking your dog in a park, picking up his feces as a standard practice not only prevents soil contamination, but also prevents the spread of many other dog diseases. Regular visits to the vet and stool testing is a great way to prevent dog worms, as well as other illnesses. Twice-yearly worm testing is recommended. Make sure your dog is tested for worms before starting a heartworm preventative. High-risk dogs should be screened more often (check with your vet). Flea control is important because fleas are responsible for the spread of tapeworms. Most puppies find feces quite appetizing. Keep your dog away from feces: his own as well as others. This is the most common form of worm infestation. When cleaning your dog's area, such as his bed or crate, spray it with a strong saltwater solution and let dry. This aids in the prevention of worms. Before traveling with your dog to obscure destinations, consult your vet of the potential risks to your dog. Avoid exposing your dog to stray animals, birds and dead rodents, which often harbor immature tapeworms that can mature inside your dog. Contact your vet if your dog displays any symptoms after receiving worm medication.

How to Get Rid of Phlegm

You might want to hold off with that wish. Phlegm is actually good for you. Well, not the thing itself, but what it represents. Phlegm is mucous that becomes congealed and visible. It's almost always a sign of your body fighting off whatever infection is wreaking havoc on your respiratory system - which is actually a good thing. Phlegm is primarily composed of mucous, dead bacteria and virus, dead white blood cells, and various tissues and cells. The difference between phlegm and other mucous is that phlegm comes from your lungs, not from your nasal passages.

In around 400 B.C. it was thought that phlegm was part of the four humours, the four basic substances that were supposed to comprise the human body. The other three humours were black bile, bile, and blood, and when they were balanced, the body would achieve harmony and would thus be healthy. A lack or excess of any of the humours resulted in diseases or disabilities. It was the ancient Greek philosopher Hippocrates (of the Hippocratic Oath fame) who is credited for coming up with this theory. For 2,000 years, it influenced medical thinking until it was discredited in the 1800s.

While phlegm is an indication that your body's immune system is working overtime to get rid of those nasty invaders that are trying to make you sick, coughing up phlegm every few minutes is still a rather unpleasant practice. Here are several things you can do to get rid of the phlegm quicker so you won't have to find yourself in potentially embarrassing and totally awkward situations.

Phlegm Elimination

If you're a smoker, cut the habit. Everyone knows that smoking aggravates and promotes several lung and bronchial problems. As if body infections are not enough, respiratory diseases caused by smoking will give your body additional health issue baggage it does not need. Smoking interferes with your body's ability to fight off any infection, so whatever problems it is currently engaged in that resulted in the formation of mucous will be prolonged. Thus, your phlegm problem will drag on longer. Smoking also kills the cilia that line your lungs, making it harder for you to cough out phlegm. If you've been coughing up brown or gray-colored phlegm, it means that your body is screaming for you to lay off the cigarettes. It would do you well to cut out the filthy habit before those browns and grays become speckled with red - a sure precursor to something serious, like lung cancer.

Treat any nasal or sinus infection that you have. As mentioned earlier, phlegm is just an accumulation of mucous and other dead substances that coagulate and become visible. Mucous isn't a foreign object - your body's airways produce mucous regularly. These mucus secretions don't accumulate because they're regularly cleared to your throat where they are carried down by the saliva. If you have an infection that blocks normal passage to the airways and throat, the mucus doesn't get drained down by the saliva and thus accumulates. Fixing the infection will help fix the additional congestion, easing the accumulation of mucus and phlegm.

Take an expectorant. Expectorants are medicines you can take to clear and loosen up any mucus and phlegm in your respiratory tract. They work by thinning out the mucus so you will be able to easily dislodge it when you cough. Common expectorant medicines are those that contain guaifenesin and bromhexine, so when buying expectorants, be sure to check if these ingredients are present. As with buying any medicine over the counter, be sure to consult with your physician first, just in case you might be subject to complications because of them.

Don't take cough suppressants. Sure, it is pretty annoying when you have a hacking cough every five minutes, causing you to spit out phlegm at pretty much the same rate, but coughing is your body's way of trying to dislodge the phlegm. If you're taking cough suppressants or anything that inhibits your ability to cough, you're essentially allowing the production and build-up of mucus and phlegm in your system since you've basically shut down your body's mechanism to expel them. The sooner you get all the phlegm out of your system, the sooner your coughing will stop, and the sooner you will find relief.

Drink plenty of fluids and liquids. Plenty of liquids and fluids help loosen up any hard, sticky phlegm that is congesting your system. Fluids also help wash down mucus that is regularly deposited on your throat, thereby lessening their chances of building up and coagulating. There are also herbal teas and drinks that help you deal with respiratory problems, and the fewer complications you have, the better your chances of getting rid of respiratory disease effects - mucus and phlegm included.

Spit the phlegm out; don't swallow it. Among the many components that make up phlegm are substances like immunoglobulins and glycoproteins that help your body fight off the infection. When these substances get killed (together with the bacteria and virus they were fighting), they become part of what makes up phlegm. When phlegm gets coughed out, it means that they have served their purpose - remnants and refuse of the battle, so to speak - and are no longer necessary in the proper functioning of the body. They have to be expelled. Therefore, spit them out and don't swallow them back. Aside from the fact that swallowing phlegm is gross and unsanitary, it sometimes gets reintroduced to your pulmonary system, worsening your situation.

There are also home brew remedies you can try that will help in getting rid of your phlegm. Eucalyptus oil mixed with boiling water is a good way to decongest your chest and lessen the abundance of phlegm in your respiratory system. Two to three drops of the oil in boiling water should be enough to do the trick. Hold a towel over your head and deeply breathe in the steam. This will help clear out congested passageways of your respiratory tract, allowing you to spit out the phlegm more easily. Garlic is also said to have expectorant properties, and is considered to be a good supplement for treating congestion.

When your phlegm starts showing up in different colors, it's about time to have yourself checked by a physician. Take a sample of your phlegm for analysis. Different colors usually indicate an underlying condition. Normal phlegm is usually clear and white. Yellow phlegm means that your immune system is functioning properly and is responding to something. Greenish phlegm means that there is definitely an infection in your body. Rusty spots in green phlegm are often an indication of something serious, like internal respiratory micro-bleeding or pneumonia. Brownish phlegm can be a sign of infection, as well as symptoms of too much smoking, as resin is sticking to the phlegm. When this happens, it is always advisable to limit or just stop your smoking habit, as it may be exacerbating whatever respiratory condition you may have.

Severe Bronchitis

Severe bronchitis is a result of a severe inflammation of the large bronchi. This can happen when one has an attack from pathogens. These pathogens are bacteria and viruses. Other causes of bronchitis can be smoking and inhaling dangerous fumes. Severe bronchitis can progress to pneumonia and asthma. Proper diagnosis and treatment is therefore very important.

The most common cause of bronchitis is viral infections. These viruses include the influenza, rhino virus, adenoviridae virus and the syncytial virus. Symptoms as a result of these infections are an expectorant cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, fever, fatigue and chest pains. The adenoviridae virus can also cause abdomen related problems. Severe bronchitis can adversely affect ones lifestyle.

SEVERS DISEASE

It is necessary for you to fight off the infection. The medication can only be taken after a proper diagnosis. This involves chest x-rays to determine if the condition has progressed to pneumonia. Other tests include, sputum and blood tests. These reveal the nature of the disease and the pathogens at play. Once severe bronchitis is diagnosed, a prescription is given. This may include antibiotics, if the infection is as a result of bacteria, an expectorant cough syrup and bronchodilaters. These works together to destroy and expel all harmful bacteria from the system.

Bronchodilaters relieve the wheezing and shortness of breath. The medication should be taken according to the prescription. A dose should be completed even if the symptoms are long gone. This is to avoid a re-infection and to make sure that the virus or bacteria is completely destroyed.

Best Antibiotic For a Gum Infection

Gum infections are caused by the overgrowth of bacteria in the mouth that inflame and infect the gums surrounding the teeth, and can even reach to the root of the tooth and deeper into bone. Regular dental care can help prevent this potentially serious infection.

However, if you find yourself in the dentist chair for treatment of gum disease or periodontitis (a more serious type of gum disease) there are several antibacterial medications your dentist or periodontitis may give you to help kill the bacteria causing infection. You may be surprised to know that antibiotics are a last resort in fighting gum disease. Bacteria can easily become resistant to antibiotics.

DISEASE

If the medication is not taken exactly as prescribed, or is stopped early, bacteria can become more difficult to treat and kill, making it hard to clear up the infection. Antibiotics are most often only given if you have a rare and aggressive form of gum disease called Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis (NUG) or if you haven't responded well to other treatments.

Antibiotics may also be prescribed if you have a weakened immune system or another serious health condition. If your dentist does give you an antibiotic, you may take a pill or your dentist may pack pockets of gum infection with gel, powder, or small pill-like dissolving chips of antibiotics. These are typically left in place for 7-10 days, and then any remaining residue is removed. Antibiotics are used in conjunction with scraping and planing-a procedure that removes hard tarter buildup and bacteria from the tooth and gum line.

How to Treat Graves' Disease Naturally

If you have been diagnosed with Graves' Disease, want to avoid taking medication if at all possible, and don't even want to consider treating your condition with radioactive iodine, then the information you're about to read can be life changing. I am a licensed healthcare professional and was personally diagnosed with Graves' Disease. Knowing that this is a serious autoimmune thyroid condition, I honestly wasn't sure if I would rely on natural treatment methods, even though I without question have a natural mindset.

The problem is that Graves' Disease can be life threatening if the symptoms are not controlled, and as a result, I didn't take my high pulse rate and palpitations lightly. I did consider receiving a combination of the conventional medical treatments and the natural treatment protocol, which I do recommend for some patients. But although my pulse rate was much higher than normal (in the mid 90's, when it was usually in the mid 60's), I didn't consider it to be too extreme, and thus decided to go strictly with a natural treatment protocol and not take any prescription medication (the endocrinologist I consulted with recommended Methimazole and a beta blocker).

DISEASE

As for radioactive iodine, this is something I planned to avoid at all costs. In my opinion, this harsh treatment method should be used only as a last resort, as most people who "choose" this treatment method will become hypothyroid. Even when someone with Graves' Disease has an extremely high pulse rate (for example, greater than 120 beats per minute), radioactive iodine usually isn't needed to control the symptoms, as taking a beta blocker will usually accomplish this. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, and there are some circumstances where taking radioactive iodine is necessary.

Warning: Don't Treat Graves' Disease On Your Own:

It's truly amazing how many different conditions people try to treat naturally on their own. They simply do some research on the internet, find out what nutritional supplements and/or herbs might be able to help, and visit their local health food store and purchase these supplements. For some conditions this isn't a problem, but for a serious autoimmune condition such as Graves' Disease, this is definitely not recommended. You should either be under the care of an endocrinologist, a competent natural doctor, or in some cases, both types of healthcare professionals.

As for whether you should take the prescribed medication, which usually consists of a drug like Methimazole, and/or a beta blocker, such as Propranolol, this obviously is something that only you can decide. Obviously an endocrinologist or general practitioner that prescribes these drugs will think that a conventional protocol is the best option, which in some cases it might be. On the other hand, a holistic doctor will often think that a natural treatment protocol will be the best option for treating this condition. Your best bet is to speak with both types of healthcare professionals, gather as much information as you can, and then make an informed decision on your own.

While I'm not at all opposed to a patient taking the prescription drugs, what they do need to keep in mind is that these medications are not getting to the underlying cause of the disorder. So while taking them in the short term to manage the symptoms might not be a bad idea, you also need to consider the potential consequences of taking these drugs for a long period of time. I personally can't tell a patient to stop taking the drugs, but if I was in a situation where I had extreme symptoms, I would have probably taken the beta blocker to control the symptoms for a month or two (mainly the high pulse rate and palpitations), along with following the natural treatment protocol, and then would have weaned myself off the medication and evaluate my symptoms.

Because the fact remains that there are natural remedies that will help control the symptoms while you are trying to restore your overall health. For example, one of the herbal remedies I took that helped with my symptoms was Bugleweed, which is for people with hyperthyroidism. Motherwort is another herbal remedy that can help with the symptoms of Graves' Disease. Now once again, I'm not suggesting that anyone with a high pulse rate and palpitations replace their medication with these herbal remedies. Although these herbal remedies are powerful, everybody's condition is different, which is why you really should consult with a competent healthcare professional.

Let's Not Forget To Address The Immune System

While Graves' Disease is often labeled as being a "thyroid disorder", one can't forget that the immune system is affected, and it is therefore important to address the immune system component. In fact, one can argue that the immune system component should be addressed before focusing on the thyroid gland. And in some cases, strengthening the immune system alone can restore someone's health back to normal. Echinacea and Selenium can help strengthen the immune system. When I began my natural treatment protocol I also took a product called Rehmannia Complex, which is a product from the nutritional company Standard Process.

The adrenal glands are usually affected too, and therefore should also be evaluated. Since most medical doctors don't properly evaluate the adrenals (and most won't attempt to evaluate this area at all), I ordered an Adrenal Stress Index test for myself, which is a saliva-based test that measures the cortisol levels at different times of the day. Initially when I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease, I had low cortisol levels in the morning and early afternoon. But the natural treatment protocol helped bring my cortisol levels back to normal. Some supplements I took to help with the adrenals included an adrenal support formula (also manufactured by Standard Process), as well as Eleuthero.

Of course the quality of the supplements used are important. You need to be careful, as while there are some great nutritional supplement companies out there, many companies produce low quality products. Even some of those sold in health food stores aren't of the highest quality. I have tried products from many different companies, and some of the best products I have used on myself and on patients are produced by a company called Standard Process, as they have been producing quality supplements for many years. The only bad news is that you can't purchase these supplements from a health food store, as they are only distributed by healthcare professionals.

I don't want to give you the impression that taking nutritional supplements and herbal remedies alone will be enough to restore your health back to normal. There are actually five main factors to help aid the recovery process for someone that has an autoimmune thyroid disorder. These include 1) having a good attitude, 2) proper nutrition, 3) getting ample sleep, 4) regular exercise, and 5) doing a good job of managing stress. All of these are important if you want to use natural treatment methods to restore the function of your thyroid gland back to normal, assuming this is possible.

Other Symptoms Associated With Graves' Disease That Can Be Helped Through Natural Treatment Methods:

While I have spoken about symptoms such as having a high pulse rate and palpitations, there are of course other symptoms that are common with Graves' Disease. In addition to the high pulse rate and palpitations, I personally experienced weight loss, increased appetite, and shakiness. Upon beginning the natural treatment protocol it wasn't too long before I noticed my pulse rate and the palpitations decreasing, as well as the shakiness. In fact, I remember clearly that when it was first suspected that I had a thyroid disorder and a had blood drawn, when I held my arm out for the nurse my arm was noticeably shaking. But once again, this was one of the first symptoms to go away when I began the natural treatment protocol.

The last symptom to disappear was the increased appetite, as after a few months I had a regular pulse rate, no palpitations or shakiness, and was gaining weight. But I still had a voracious appetite. But eventually this symptom disappeared too, and along with not having any more symptoms, it was of course great to see the blood tests confirm that I no longer was hyperthyroid.

As for whether natural treatment methods can help with your autoimmune thyroid disorder, just keep in mind that everyone is different, which of course means that not everyone will be an ideal candidate to receive these treatment methods. Some people will need to take medicine, while others will benefit from a combination of both conventional and natural treatment protocols. I will conclude this article by suggesting that anyone that has been diagnosed with Graves' Disease at least consider speaking with a competent natural doctor, especially before you consider getting treated with radioactive iodine.

But even if your endocrinologist or general practitioner is conservative like mine was and recommends Methimazole and a beta blocker, keep in mind that these prescription drugs won't do anything to restore your health back to normal. So while they might do a great job of controlling the symptoms, they will usually leave the immune system in a weakened state, leaving you more susceptible to other autoimmune conditions in the future. And just remember that consulting with a natural doctor doesn't mean you will be forced to choose a natural treatment protocol, but will simply give you more valuable information to help you make an informed decision, so you won't have any regrets in the future.

Old Dog Vestibular Syndrome

There is a syndrome, variously referred to as Canine Vestibular Syndrome, Peripheral Vestibular Syndrome (the current "preferred name"), Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome, and Idiopathic Vestibular Syndrome. Vestibular syndrome is usually a rapid-onset attack that causes a head tilt and loss his balance. The disorder is more common in older dogs and thus the name "Old Dog" or Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome -- but it can occur in middle aged dogs, too, so the name was changed. It is not a life threatening condition. It has been suggested that there is a correlation between old dog vestibular syndrome and hypothyroidism, so blood work should be done to rule out this problem.

What it is

DISEASE

Vestibular diseases can be classified into three major disease processes: idiopathic vestibular disease, inner ear disease, or central vestibular disease. Vestibular means "a problem with the connections between the inner/middle ear and brain" causing ataxia. Generally, it is an inflammation of the inner ear, the vestibule being a cavity at the entrance to the cochlea of the inner ear. Vestibular disease will clear up without treatment in most cases, but it may be sometimes coincidental to other illness.

Signs

The disease normally affects dogs that seem normal up until the signs appear. At first, the symptoms can be very subtle, almost unnoticeable to the owner. If you take a closer look you will notice that the eyes shoot rapidly from side to side, the head is cocked to one side and these, together with the drunken staggers and vomiting lead many owners to the fearful conclusion that their pet has been poisoned. The owner sees an apparently healthy dog fall over, try to get up, fall over again and then wander around if it is willing to make the effort to walk, but staggering like a drunken sailor.

Dogs that suffer this syndrome show many of the same symptoms that are associated with a stroke victim. There is sudden loss of balance with many dogs unable to even stand up. Dogs may be nauseous from the "sea sickness" effect of vestibular disease. are often distressed, and their owners fear they will never recover.

Treatment

Routine treatment includes the administration of intravenous fluids and electrolytes. No treatment can hasten the recovery, but medications can make the dog more comfortable while convalescing. Some vets may prescribe antibiotics if they suspect the possibility of infection. Vestibular disease will clear up without treatment in most cases but it may be sometimes coincidental to other illness. Keep in mind, the most common cause of treatment failure is not treating long enough.

Drugs that might be used to treat old dog vestibular syndrome include Cholodin Tabs and Winstrol V. Rimadyl has been used with some success, but veterinarians do suggest that owners should get regular liver function tests for any dog on Rimadyl.

For owners

Remember these signs of peripheral vestibular disease and consider it as a possibility if your dog exhibits these symptoms: A well dog that staggers and falls with no prior sign of sickness. It is important to note that there are no warning signs which may lead to the conclusion that it is a stroke. A few dogs have residual signs beyond this time, such as a head tilt, but with proper care and love, almost all dogs will recover.

Is It Really Liver Pain?

Liver pain is on the right side, mostly right under the rib cage, and up. There can be free fluid around the liver in the abdominal cavity which will produce pain in the right shoulder. It probably hurts to breathe in, or cough. Sometimes people describe the feeling as a swollen full feeling or cramping under the rib cage.

Liver pain symptoms are often dismissed because it is a general belief that organs don't hurt. If you are experiencing any of these sensations, don't give up, and don't think you are making it up. Liver Pain can be real. Rheumatologists, nephrologists, family practitioners, all have been known to dismiss liver pain as patient complainings.

SEVERS DISEASE

Sometimes it feels like your liver just doesn't fit under your rib cage. One person described it as feeling like a brick was tucked under their right rib. Sometimes the feeling is connected to a pain in the back as well.

Pain caused from a swollen liver is not necessarily sharp. Most of the time 'liver pain' is just a dull ache. Sometimes the sensation is wrongly attributed to fibromyaliga.

The cause of Liver Pain may be more easily identified by identifying other symptoms, such as fatigue, itching, swollen testes, difficulties breathing, eating problems, or even shoulder pain.

There can be many reasons for liver pain. Blood and urine tests help to identify problems in the liver, but don't rule out the effects of barrage of pollutants and toxic substances in today's environment. While the liver was designed to detoxify and rid the body of foreign chemicals, it may not be equipped to handle the barrage of pollutants and toxic substances in today's environment. So, while you are checking for possible causes of the pain associated with the liver, it would be a good idea to check your body for chemical overload as well.

Individual reaction to toxic overload can vary greatly. The most common symptom associated with toxic overload is fatigue. Other symptoms include headache, muscle and joint pain, irritability, depression, mental confusion, gastrointestinal and/or cardiovascular irregularities, flu-like symptoms or allergic reactions including hives, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing and coughing which is not usually associated with liver pain, but can actually be the cause.

Like all other pain symptoms in the body, liver pain should be taken seriously.

Healing Adult Cavities, Gum Disease, and Toothache

Causes and Treatments for Adult Gum Disease, Tooth Ache, and Cavities

Let's face it, going to the dentist is not fun. And as I've learned, getting a dental procedure does not solve your problem permanently. Rather it sets you up to have continual mouth problems for perhaps the rest of your life. Dentists temporarily treat one problem, that same problem then needs a retreatment 5-40 years later. Each treatment being more severe until false teeth are needed. A few lucky people are immune to tooth problems, and other's do well with one dental treatment and have no need to return to the dentist in their lives. A dentist is really a doctor of dental surgery, someone who cures tooth problems through surgical medical procedures. These procedures to a large degree are irreversible. There is a great need and motivation to heal teeth naturally.

DISEASE

Why Teeth Decay

Tooth decay is caused by a deficiency of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in the body needed to build healthy teeth. "Daily, the calcium and phosphate of the enamel is migrating out of the teeth to the bones, heart, brain and other places where it is needed. This is called by dentists demineralization." Re-enamelization (teeth growing back) of enamel requires several factors, including enough minerals such as calcium, phosphate, magnesium, and the variety of enzymes needed to regrow tooth enamel such as adenosine diphophatase. Dr. Weston Price was a dentist who traveled around the world in the 1930's and 1940's studying the diet's of primitive people's isolated from the modern world. Weston Price found that he could eliminate or greatly reduce bad bacteria's in the mouth which fuel the tooth degeneration process through diet. "These data are typical of clinical cases in which dental caries has been reduced apparently to zero, as indicated by both x-ray and instrumental examination."

Tooth decay begins many generations back. "The weakness of calcium deficiency is passed from parent to child. By following the same paternal pattern of 'poor food selection,' each new crop of babies becomes weaker. 'The sins of the parents are passed on to the third and fourth generation.'" The weakness is caused not just by a lack of calcium, but by a lack of fat soluble & water soluble vitamins. "When Dr. Price analyzed the foods used by isolated primitive peoples he found that they provided at least four times the water soluble vitamins, calcium and other minerals, and at least TEN times the fat soluble vitamins from animal foods such as butter, fish eggs, shellfish and organ meats... Many tribes required a period of premarital nutrition, and children were spaced to permit the mother to maintain her full health and strength, thus assuring subsequent offspring of physical excellence." Many primitive groups Dr. Price studied had a tooth cavity rate close to 0. Weston Price also noticed in groups following their traditional diet that decayed teeth either fell out painlessly, or they covered themselves over with a hardened layer of enamel. Weston Price treated many cases of cavities with a success rate of over 90%. At the end of this article is a copy of Dr. Price's tooth decay controlling diet for children. On my website I've scanned an x-ray image showing how Price's tooth decay controlling diet healed a girls teeth which had two cavities per tooth, which full dentures where recommended.

Not eating enough nutrients isn't the only reason why teeth would decay. They also could decay because the body has become too toxic. We unknowingly ingest these toxins daily. The most toxic substances are drugs, white sugar, breakfast cereals, cheap vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils. There is a complete list of toxic elements below. After years of this behavior, combined with smoking cigarettes, too many medications, and lack of exercise, the liver starts to become weak. The liver is the bodies nutrient store house. The toxic accumulations from cellular metabolism, as well as ingested food products inhibit the bodies ability for normal function. It's very likely that there are deeper health problems than simply tooth decay.

Any toothpaste which is pasty contains glycerin. The glycerin takes about 27 washes with water to remove from the tooth's surface. There are many alternative products such as tooth liquids, tooth powders, sea salt and baking soda, organic soap and herbs to clean and treat teeth.

Why Gums Recede

This portion of my article is based entirely on my intuition. Gums recede ultimately for the same reason teeth decay. Lack of nutrients, and too many toxins in the body preventing proper function of the bodies mechanisms. Therefore receding gums is a clear indication that your body is in an active process of degeneration. The cause of these conditions should be addressed immediately through proper body cleansing and proper nutrient intake as described in my web site. For whatever reason, depending on someone's genetics, or structure of their energetic patterns, or the type of toxin and nutrient deficiency, the result in one person could be tooth decay, and in another person, gum disease, and in other people, both.

Toothache's

A toothache means that the there is leak of the boundary between the inner part of the tooth called the pulp where the nerve is located, and the environment of the mouth. I was told that this can be caused by the wearing away of the filaments which bond the tooth into the jaw bone under the gum line. A tooth ache also means that your tooth is likely demineralizing. The outer layer of the tooth has become breached due to a loss of minerals from the surface.

White Sugar, evaporated Cane Juice, Corn Syrup, and Organic Cane Sugar - White Sugar is a skeletonized product, in order to have a long shelf life, all of it's main constituents are removed.

Scientific evidence against sugar has been mounting for decades. As early as 1933 research showed that increased consumption of sugar caused an increase in various disease conditions in school children. Sugar, especially fructose, has been shown to shorten life in numerous animal experiments.. Numerous subsequent studies have positively correlated sugar consumption with heart disease... A survey of medical journals in the 1970s produced findings implicating sugar as a causative factor in kidney disease, liver disease, shortened life span, increased desire for coffee and tobacco, arteriosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Finally sugar consumption was proved by Dr. Melvin Page to leech calcium out of our bones. This is how sugar contributes to tooth decay, it has little to do with sugar resting on the surface of the tooth.

White Flour and Flour products - White flour has had it's vitamin and mineral content removed to do it's high level of rancidity. Freshly ground flour seldom stays good for more than two weeks even when it is refrigerated. To solve this problem, food manufacturer's remove the vitamins and minerals from the flour to prevent it from going rancid. This was done with the selfish motive of profit for the food company, not in harmony with nature's law of balance. "[I]n the production of refined white flour approximately eighty percent or four-fifths of the phosphorous and calcium content are usually removed, together with the vitamins and minerals provided in the embryo or germ. The evidence indicates that a very important factor in the lowering of the reproductive efficiency of womanhood is directly related to the removal of vitamin E in the processing of wheat."

Low cost Vegetable Oils and Hydrogenated Oil - It is important to understand that, of all substances ingested by the body, it is polyunsaturated oils that are rendered most dangerous by food processing, especially unstable omega-3 linolenic acid. In the old days oil was extracted with slow moving stone presses. In large factories seeds are heated to 230 degrees farenheit. The oil is then squeezed out at pressures from 10 to 20 tons per inch. In order to extract oil from the final pulp, chemicals are added such as hexane. The solvent is boiled but up to 100 part per million remain in the oil. The solvent is toxic, and it also bonds to toxic pesticides in the seeds. The high temperature processing causes the weak carbon bonds of the unsaturated fatty acids to break apart, thereby creating dangerous free radicals. And finally BHT and BHA, both suspected of causing cancer and brain damage are added to the oils to replace the lost natural preservatives which where destroyed by the heat processing. Any cheap oil, such as soy, corn, cottonseed, canola, ect. falls under this category. Still want to eat this oil?

Partially hydrogenated margarines and shortening are even worse for you than the highly refined vegetable oils from which they are made because of chemical changes that occur during the hydrogenation process. Man made trans fats are toxins to the body, but unfortunately your digestive system does not recognize them as such. Instead of eliminating them, your body incorporates the trans fats into the cell membranes as though they where naturally occurring fats called cis fats. Your cell actually become partially hydrogenated. This interferes with cellular metabolism because it changes the normal chemical reactions which take place in the cell.

Iodized Salt - Normal table salt is highly refined. Salt is the product of a chemical and high temperature industrial process that removes all the valuable magnesium salts as well as trace minerals naturally occurring in the sea.

Pasteurized Milk & powdered Milk- The milk sold in the supermarket is bad for everybody. The modern milk cow is a mutant cow which produces three to four times as much milk as a standard cow. This mutant cow has been selectively bred from cows who have active pituitary glands, and is then fed an excessively high protein diet. These overactive pituitary glands produce growth hormones, which are present in today's milk supply. While small amounts of hormones in cows milk is okay, excessive pituitary hormones are also associated with tumor formation, and some studies link milk consumption with cancer. The freak pituitary cow is prone to many diseases. She almost always secretes pus into her milk and needs frequent doses of antibiotics. The high protein feed these cows eat is made from soy beans. This is not the cows natural diet, and there is no scientific information as to the quality of the protein in the soy fed milk.

Pasteurizing milk is no guarantee of cleanliness. There was a salmonella outbreak in 1985 in Illinois affecting 14,000 people. Pasteurization destroys the helpful organisms found in raw milk, leaving the finished product devoid of any protective mechanism should undesirable bacteria inadvertently contaminate the supply. Heat alters the milk's amino acids, it promotes rancidity of unsaturated fatty acids and destruction of vitamins. Vitamin C loss exceeds 50%, and other vitamin loss runs as high as 80%. Vitamin B-12 is totally destroyed. Milk comes with enzymes which help the body digest the milk. Pasteurization kills all of these enzymes. After pasteurization synthetic vitamin D-2 may be added which has been linked to heart disease. Because milk is devoid of its enzyme content, it puts an enormous strain on the body's digestive mechanism. In the elderly, and those with milk intolerance or weak digestion, the milk passes through not fully digested and can build up around the tiny villi of the small intestine preventing the absorption of the vital nutrients and promoting the uptake of toxic substances.

Soy Milk, Soy Meat, Soy Protein, Soy Formula and Tofu - Soy protein powder is high in mineral-blocking phytates, thyroid depressing phytoestrogens and potent enzyme inhibitors that depress growth and cause cancer. Phytates are substances that block the absorption of minerals in the body. Soybeans are high in phytates and contain potent enzyme inhibitors that are only deactiviated by fermentation and not by ordinary cooking. These inhibitors can lead to protein assimilation problems in those who consume unfermented soy product frequently. Soy milk often substituted for cow's milk, also has a high phyatate content and can lead to mineral dieficiences. Phytoestrogens found in soy foods, although touted as panaceas for heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis, are potent endocrine disrupters as well as goitrogens - substances that depress thyroid function.

Unsoaked Grains and Nuts, including Cereal, Granola, Peanut Butter, Bread, and Pasta, Cracker's and Cookies - Phosphorus in the bran of whole grains is tied up in a substance called phytic acid. Phytic acid combines with iron, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc in the intestinal tract, blocking their absorption. Whole grains also contain enzyme inhibitors that can interfere with digestion. Whole grains that have been processed by high heat and pressure to produce puffed wheat, oats, and rice are actually quite toxic and have caused rapid death in test animals. Breakfast cerals can have more adverse effects on blood sugar then refined sugar and white flour because they have been processed at high temperatures and pressures to make their shapes. This process leaves phytic acid intact but destroys phytase, an enzyme that breaks down some of the phytic acid in the digestive tract. Most grains and legume available in supermarkets have been treated numerous times with pesticides and other sprays that inhibit mold and vermin. I used to eat organic breakfast cereal, sometimes made with puffed wheat. These grain cereals did not have pesticides and other harmful chemical additives, as they where organic. However, being organic just meant that my toxic puffed oats where free of other possibly dangerous substances. Good thing I used organic! J

Non-Pasture Fed Meat & Eggs - The meat, milk, and eggs in our supermarkets are highly contaminated and vastly inferior in nutritional quality to those available to our ancestors just a few decades ago. Modern cattle-raising techniques include the use of steroids to make meat more tender and antibiotics that allow cattle to survive in crowded feedlots. Diseased animals routinely pass inspection and find their way into the food supply. Chicken are raised in crowded pens, often under artificial light both night and day and fed on substandard food. Their eggs are inferior in nutritional qualities to those of free-range, properly nourished hens. According to renowned cancer specialist Virginia Livingston-Wheeler, most chicken and nearly half the beef consumed in America today is cancerous and pathogenic. Her research has convinced her that these cancers are transmissible to man.

Healing Tooth Decay

Tooth decay and tooth healing happens through two mechanisms. #1 From within the tooth from a toxic blood supply or a deficient blood supply to the tooth. #2 Defective saliva within the mouth. "I feel perfectly confident that both inside the tooth and outside on the surface new construction is occurring constantly, even if at a slow rate." "Nearly all tooth decay comes from the blood stream, saliva, and the inside of the teeth, not only from the external surface. The teeth deteriorate but it is from the toxic blood stream and the enamel-destroying toxic saliva which is the result of an impure blood stream."

Germs are a secondary factor in tooth decay. So even if the adult's teeth and mouth are totally clean and void of bacteria's, the tooth will still decay. The tooth will still decay because there are not enough minerals in the body, primarily Calcium, Magnesium, and Phosphorus, to create a new tooth surface. This also means if your child has tooth problems, that their overall body is both weak and depleted as the minerals are moving from the teeth to other more important parts.

Proper care of teeth

Brush the your teeth often if possible. Absolutely do not use fluoride or give your child fluoride treatments. While these have some short term temporary benefits, fluoride changes the chemical structure of the tooth making it extra brittle. Fluoride is highly poisonous and most tubes of toothpaste contain a lethal amount of fluoride. It takes about ½ teaspoon of fluoride to kill a 100 lb. person. Dr. Dean Burk was a highly respected chemist who worked for the National Cancer institute. He testified before congress that he believed water fluoridation to have caused about 1/10th of all cancer deaths. That's 61,000 people per year. Instead of toothpaste use tooth powder or tooth herbs or sea salt to brush your child's teeth. Regular tooth paste contains glycerin which coats the teeth with a layer of goop that prevents the teeth from remineralizing. You can also use small amounts of soap on the child's tooth brush to clean their teeth. This should not create any bad taste in the child's mouth. The soap also kills bacteria's. Herbal mouthwashes or herbal gum treatments can be helpful as well provided they are not swallowed.

In conclusion, you can brush your teeth and subject yourself to expensive dental treatments. These are not cures, but simply treatments of the symptoms of nutritional deficiency and an accumulation of toxins. In examining your diet and health habits you will likely find a history of a diet high in the foods which where to be avoided, and low in the foods containing the highest amounts of vitamins. The US RDA (recommended daily allowances) for food are the minimum requirements for survival. Weston Price found that people following primitive diets consume between four and ten times the amount of vitamins than the RDA. Four - Ten times recommended is what is required for a cavity free, healthy child. (Between 30-70% of America falls below the RDA) It is quite possible that most childhood illnesses, in addition to tooth decay, such as colicky babies are caused by nutritional deficiencies.

Take responsibility for your health and eat properly. Rebuilding bones can take up to one year, so don't expect immediate results other than a more fulfilled, happier, smarter and more peaceful state of being. These changes go against the grain of society, and you might be tempted to only follow some. It's much easier to ignore the true causes of illness, than to treat them. It's hard work to make these changes, but it's worth it. Please, do it for your family. I personally decided to not do any dental treatments to my teeth even though x-rays show three cavities. They don't bother me and hopefully they won't get worse and they'll heal up.

Weston Price's Controlling Tooth Decay Diet

4 ounces of tomato juice or orange juice and a teaspoonful of a mixture of equal parts of a very high vitamin, natural cod-liver oil (1/2 tsp), and especially high vitamin butter oil (1/2 tsp) was given at the beginning of the meal. The child received a bowl containing a pint of very rich vegetable and meat stew made largely from bone marrow and fine cuts of tender meat. Plenty of yellow carrots in where in this soup. Cooked fruit with very little sweetening and rolls made from freshly ground whole wheat and spread with high vitamin butter. The wheat for the rolls where ground fresh every day in a motor driven coffee mill. Each child was given also 2 glasses of fresh whole milk. The menu was varied from day to day by substituting the meat stew for fish chowder or organs of animals. This one meal contained an entire days supply of Calcium, and double the normal supply of phosphorus.

Cayenne Pepper and Heart Health - Is Cayenne a Cure For Heart Disease?

Cayenne pepper is one of the most powerful and beneficial herbs known to mankind, but unfortunately very few know of its efficacy. Cayenne pepper and heart health should be synonymous for anyone with heart disease or cardiovascular issues but it is not. Due to the power and might of Big Pharma and their unholy alliance with the United States government, many Americans are simply unaware of natural herbs that can dramatically improve their heart health.

"If this is true, then why haven't the masses heard of it?" you may ask. A fair question. In a word, money. Literally billions of dollars have been spent on heart disease care and research, not to mention the billions on pharmaceutical drugs fighting cholesterol.

DISEASE

In fact, the number-one-selling drug in the US is Lipitor -- ostensibly sold to reduce cholesterol and by extension heart disease. Cayenne could eliminate all that and that is why the medical establishment doesn't want people to know about it.

Before discussing the benefits of cayenne pepper and heart health however, let's consider the result of the billions that have been "invested" in the name of curing heart disease for if there is one fundamental criterion by which government and medical institutional spending should be judged, it should be by the results.

According to a May 25th, 2006 report by the BBC, heart disease is the biggest killer in the United Kingdom. Across the pond in the United States, the National Heart Foundation says, "Coronary heart disease is the single greatest cause of death for both men and women in the US, eclipsing all other causes, including cancer and lung diseases. Every year more than 479,000 Americans die of coronary heart disease."

Clearly, the current allopathic (traditional Western medicine) approach is lacking.

The unholy collusion between government, pharmaceutical interests and institutional medicine, with its powerful financial influence, pervades nearly every facet of society. Homeopathic medicine is not only derided but persecuted and even criminalized while allopathic medicine is deified as the only way to health.

In reality, the joining of the best of allopathic and homeopathic interventions would be ideal, but for that to happen, results would have to be the final arbiter as to an intervention's effectiveness, not corporate and governmental interests.

Background Info

So, what is cayenne? You probably recognize its name as a potent condiment often used in cooking, but its value lies well beyond its culinary uses. It is an herb that is nothing short of amazing.

It is a multi-talented herb that is also known, although obliquely so, as African red pepper, American red pepper, Spanish pepper, capsicum, and bird pepper. Cayenne is derived from two related plants. Specifically, the American variety (Capsicum minimum) is distinguished from its African counterpart the African birdseye cayenne (Capsicum fastigiatum) although both are highly beneficial to man. The African birdseye cayenne is the most pungent with small, yellowish red pods while the American variety is distinguished with its herb-sized plants and larger fruit or pods.

The food value of cayenne is known, of course, but its real value is as a medicinal and nutritional herb. Its medical uses include using it for wounds, heart disease, heart attacks, heart problems at large, ulcers, congestion, colds, chills, bleeding of the lungs, neuralgia, lumbago, hemorrhage, hemorrhoids, high and low blood pressure, indigestion, and kidney and related problems. (This is by no means a comprehensive list as to the herb's effectiveness.)

Cayenne is a stimulant and as such is an activator, carrier, and accentuator to other herbs as well. Still, it can and should be used by itself. Let's discuss now some of those ancillary uses before we talk in depth about capsicum and heart health.

Cayenne pepper anti-fungal properties are tangible although this is not its primary health benefit. It has been shown in some studies to be active against collectotrichum and phomopsis, both of which are fungal pathogens. These important fungal pathogens affect strawberries and other fruits and are not directly related to humans per se.

However, cayenne immune system benefits are of interest to researchers. Currently, it is being studied by many nutritional supplement companies for its therapeutic and nutritional benefits. If you desire a natural anti-fungal aid, garlic is preferred over cayenne for garlic has long been known for its anti-fungal properties. (In Russia, it has long been called "the Russian penicillin.")

Health Benefits of Cayenne Pepper

Capsicum increases metabolism by immediately influencing the venous structure. It is remarkable with its immediate effects on the circulatory system as it feeds the vital elements into the cell structure of capillaries, veins, arteries and helps adjust blood pressure to normal levels. Yes, cayenne pepper for high blood pressure is certainly one of its core uses, but it cleans the arteries as well.

It also stimulates the peristaltic motion of the intestines and aids in assimilation and elimination. When taken internally, it warms the body and has even been used by some herbalist doctors to help severe frostbite as cayenne not only facilitates the healing of the flesh but it helps rebuild tissue as well.

Notwithstanding its hot taste, it is superb for rebuilding the tissue in the stomach for it actually facilitates rapid healing with stomach and intestinal ulcers. Capsicum for ulcers is not something most would have considered due to its native calidity but the author can testify to this aspect of this wonder herb.

Its Dramatic Effects

Dr. John Christopher, the famed natural herbalist, was persecuted relentlessly by the government while assisting patients in curing cancer, heart disease, pleurisy, tuberculosis, infertility, rheumatism, leukemia, and other maladies. One of his greatest stories in his long career was how he could instantly stop a heart attack if he could get the patient to drink a glass of warm cayenne water. In his writings, he said, "A teaspoon of cayenne should bring the patient out of the heart attack."

(While this is not directly related to heart health, with internal hemorrhaging, if the patient can drink a glass of extra warm water with cayenne, Dr. Christopher wrote, "...by the count of ten the bleeding will stop. Instead of all the pressure being centralized, it is equalized and the clotting becomes more rapid.")

Perhaps now you can see why cayenne is regarded as a "miracle herb." With over 700,000 Americans experiencing a stroke each year and almost half a million dying of heart disease, the cure to a healthy heart is as close as your local grocery store. The cayenne detoxification drink, when taken religiously, will dramatically improve your heart health as well as your venous structure.

Side Effects of Cayenne Pepper

What are the side effects of cayenne pepper? What are its bad points? Well, it is certainly hot to the taste. Drinking what the author calls the cayenne detoxification drink is not for the faint of heart (on second thought perhaps it is!). When starting to drink the cayenne pepper detoxification drink, it tends to come out of the body's orifices with a burning sensation.

Not to worry, though. It is very beneficial. In fact, capsicum will help clear up hemorrhoids if taken regularly -- especially if the hemorrhoid sufferer changes their diet to one more rich in fiber.

To mitigate its heat, the author suggests starting with just a half a teaspoon of cayenne in a glass of eight ounces of lukewarm water (or even less if desired). Have another glass of just water nearby as drinking cold water after the cayenne drink will help mitigate the calidity of the drink's after effects. Yes, you can take it in capsule form but its effects won't be immediate the way it would be by direct application.

There are also some who suggest combining lemon water and cayenne for fast metabolism. (There are also some who think that a combination of cayenne lemon fat burn facilitates adipose loss. That is debatable, but drinking a concoction of lemon water and cayenne for fast metabolism is certainly more palatable.)

Drinking the capsicum detoxification drink daily will produce noticeable benefits, and the body will acclimate very quickly to its native heat. Within a month or two, you will be able to drink a tablespoon of capsicum without too much discomfort.

Yes, you could go on a cayenne fruit diet, but drinking it is easier and more convenient. One last comment: no significant side effects have been reported. Of course, taking too much of anything is not healthy, a problem never really attributed to cayenne due to its heat. In terms of health side effects, there are none. As with all things, though, use with discretion and wisdom.

Conclusion

If you are concerned about your heart health, or if you are suffering from heart ailments, cayenne should be a daily staple in your diet. This incredible herb is a wonder and can tremendously affect your health. Cayenne is one of the greatest health secrets in the world.

Cayenne certainly is a great condiment, used with panache by great cooks and chefs, but its true value lies in its medicinal qualities. Slowly and surely, its remarkable benefits are gaining awareness by a public becoming increasingly disenchanted by traditional medicine's non-causal approach. Perhaps now you can see why cayenne is a prince among herbs.

Groin Sweat Cure - 3 Ways to Stop Groin Sweating

Groin sweating can be very embarrassing for anyone suffering with this condition.  I used to suffer with severe sweating due to nervousness and anxiety.  Sweating excessively does not always have to stem from anxiety though.  Many people sweat due to various medical conditions not related to anxiousness.  Sweating profusely is a condition called hyperhidrosis and it is treatable.  Here are 3 different treatment options for excessive sweating.

One way to treat groin sweat is to keep the area fresh and cool.  The hotter your body temperature gets, the more likely you will sweat.  Be sure to wear clothes that breathe such as cotton underwear and non-constrictive clothing.  Cotton helps to minimize sweat and keeps your groin area cool.

SEVERS

A second way to treat groin sweat is to keep the area dry.  After you take a shower, dry the area completely and apply a talcum powder (talc) to absorb the wetness if you sweat later on. This powder is absorbent and will soak up extra sweat throughout the day.  You can also carry the powder with you in case you sweat a lot and need to apply a little more.  Be careful however not to get it on your clothes!

Groin sweat can also be fixed by applying an antiperspirant.  You can get over the counter "clinical strength" or you can visit a dermatologist for prescription strength.  It is also a good idea to visit your general practitioner to discuss your excessive sweating in case it is medically related.  There are certain conditions which cause people to sweat excessively so it's always a good idea to be sure.

How to Get Rid of a Sore Throat?

A sore throat is one of the most common of medical complaints. It is an inflammation or infection of the pharynx accompanied with discomfort, pain, or scratchiness in the throat. A sore throat is contagious in most cases and can be spread through coughing and sneezing. There are many ways to get rid of a sore throat.

A sore throat is a symptom, not a disease. I know what it's like when the glands beneath your jaw begin to get sore, warning you that a sore throat is about to set in. In many cases, a sore throat is the first indication that you're getting sick.

SEVERS DISEASE

A sore throat is one of the most common reasons patients go to the doctor's office. A sore throat is a common condition, and usually not a very serious one. It is a common symptom that ranges in severity from simple scratchiness to severe pain. A doctor should be consulted if your sore throat is a recurring problem not associated with a viral or bacterial infection.

But how do you know which sore throat is a strep throat infection. For example, a very common cause of sore throat is a bacterium called Streptococcus. In general, the more cold like symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection.

The symptom of a sore throat is aching in the back of your throat. It is one of the most common conditions managed. They are by no means pleasant. Oftentimes a sore throat is one of the first symptoms of our bodys' fight against the common cold or flu. For many people, a good way to soothe a sore throat is to drink a cup of hot tea that contains honey.

If your sore throat is severe, persists for more than 2 days, is accompanied or followed by fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea or vomiting you should visit your doctor. If those sound like your symptoms, your sore throat is probably viral and will clear up on its own.

Excellent remedies for a sore throat is gargling with thyme tea which is a powerful antiseptic, disinfectant, antibacterial, anti this and that, or using lemon juice. If you can handle neat lemon juice, so much the better, but a lemon tea or lemonade will work well. It may sting, but it works. You can always add a little honey to it, which will also help the throat.

Another excellent remedy for sore throat is to eat some well-beaten egg whites. My favorite treatment for sore throats, cold and flu symptoms is a mixture of equal quantities of honey, vinegar and lemon juice, taken in teaspoonfuls several times a day. The honey is soothing, the vinegar clears the sinuses and the lemon kills the bugs (that's keeping it simple)...

Drinking a lot of fluids will help you get rid of a sore throat. Once you get rid of your sore throat, get rid of your toothbrush as it may cause the sore throat to return. Installing a humidifier in your room will help you get rid of a sore throat as well as prevent it. Cepacol products not only get rid of sore throat pain quickly, they're also safe for people with diabetes, too. Drink a ton of hot water and try gargling with Listerine; it gets rid of a sore throat surprisingly fast. Plus a metric load of vitamin C will get rid of a sore throat.

Because viral illnesses are the most common cause of a sore throat, it is important not to use antibiotics to treat them. One of the most distressing symptoms of the common cold is a sore throat and many nonprescription drug products claim to provide relief for this condition. Mouth breathing leads to drying of pharyngeal mucosa; this is a very common cause of chronic sore throat. A common cold normally starts out with a sore throat.

The most common causes of sore throat are viral infections. A weak immune system and food allergy are the common causes of sore throat. Dry air, singing abusively, and viral/bacterial infection are some of the more common causes of a sore throat. This in turn causes crusty mucus on the nasal and throat lining which causes inflammation and irritation which presents itself as a sore throat. A viral infection that causes a sore throat still can cause some significant discomfort.

When a runny nose drips onto the back of the throat (called "post-nasal drip"), it causes a sore throat, and often a cough. It is the inflammation of the delicate surface of the throat that causes the pain on swallowing, and general discomfort. And because the symptoms of the three most common causes of a sore throat --strep, a cold or the flu -- are so similar, it is difficult to tell them apart. However, it is important to rule out more serious causes of a sore throat, such as streptococcal bacteria (strep throat) and mononucleosis.

But when your sore throat is viral (or the result of a bacteria that's not strep) herbal medicines can really help. The best way to reduce the discomfort of a sore throat is to take pain meds like Tylenol or Advil (acetaminophen or Ibuprofen). New TYLENOL® Sore Throat is the first and only product of its kind that provides an easy, convenient and effective way to treat the pain of sore throats. No special treatment is needed if your sore throat is caused by a virus.

On many sites I found that people suggested gargling cayenne pepper mixed with water 3-5 times a day until the sore throat is gone. Having a sore throat is the worst and if you are really feeling sick there is little to no chance that you will venture out to get medicine so using herbs that you already have at home is your best bet. Roxalia Sore Throat is a homeopathic combination remedy that can bring relief to sore throats.
